MASSIMO TONONI

Massimo Tononi is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banco BPM, Italy’s third largest banking group.

After starting his career at Goldman Sachs, eventually becoming a partner, in 2006 he was appointed Undersecretary of State with responsibility for public debt and investee companies at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (Prodi Government). He has also served as Chairman of Borsa Italiana (2011-2015), Prysmian (2010-2018), Istituto Atesino di Sviluppo (2012-2018), Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (2015-2016), Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (2018-2019), Deputy Chairman of ABI (2016), and Director of the London Stock Exchange Group (2010-2015), Mittel (2010-14), Sorin (2010-2015), ltalmobiliare (2014-2018), II Sole 24 Ore (2016-2018), Mediobanca (2017-2018), as well as a member of the Italian Corporate Governance Committee (2011-2020), of which he has been chairman since 2023.

He holds a degree in Business Economics from Bocconi University in Milan.
